I remember going for a run in Jesmond Dene and seeing a Bootcamp class taking place. The group looked like they were having fun, as well as keeping fit and I remember thinking that I’d love to join in!

I didn’t have a lot of self-confidence at the time and was looking at ways to try and improve it. I signed up via the Groupon offer and remember feeling nervous about not knowing anyone and wondering whether or not I would be good enough.

I was instantly made to feel welcome at my first session and although it was hard I enjoyed being outside and the lovely group that I trained with encouraged me. From the very first session I was hooked and I can honestly say that it continued to get better and better!

Week by week I was encouraged by the amazing ODFC instructors and I could see my fitness starting to improve. I started to achieve things that I never dreamed I could do, for example lifting weights, taking part in a muddy obstacle course and pulling a van as part of a 12 hour fitness challenge! Over the last year I’ve tried all the classes on offer from Fight Fit to Strength and Conditioning. Each class is never the same and all the instructors have their own unique style of coaching, which I love. I still have more to learn, particularly boxing and an overhead press lift – which I haven’t yet mastered!

I’m determined to keep training hard and I’m looking forward to my first Blaydon Race, which I’ve entered along with other ODFC members.
For me ODFC is more than a Bootcamp. We regularly go for coffee after training and organise other social activities. I’ve built some amazing friendships and feel lucky to train with a fantastic group of people.

I would say ODFC has changed my life and has helped me to smile again
